Lanzhou Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (LIGCAS) was founded in 1960 from her predecessor "Research Section of Northwest Geology, Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Sciences", which was established in 1956.
LIGCAS is a unique research center in Chinese research interests focused on oil & Gas Geology. Research-base type Institute by Chinese Academy Laboratory of Gas Geochemistry
(SKLGG) of LIGCAS ei by Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999. As a Project on May 10,2002.
LIGCAS has obtained abundant research fruits, including Theory of Oil Generation From Continental Moist Depression (1961), Comprehensive Investigation On Qinghai Lake, and Theory of Natural Gas Origin, which represented the highest academic achievements in oil &gas geology of China in different periods and was highly admitted as "three brilliances created by LIGCAS "by experts at home and abroad.
LIGCAS has contributed a lot not only in the fields of the basic and applied basic research on oil & gas exploration and development, but also trained nearly 200 distinguished expertsfor those institutions majored in oil & gas geology and exploration & development companies, and thus well-known as the cradle of oil & gas geochemist in China.
